Ushering out the old year to the crackle of fireworks and firecrackers is a time-honoured Lunar New Year tradition, rooted in the belief the noise drives away evil spirits. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for residents and visitors, the local authorities have designated a special area in Taipa where the public can purchase and set off fireworks and firecrackers in a controlled environment.
